The GAF Nomad, an Australian-made twin-engine turboprop utility aircraft, made its first flight in 1971, emerging from a well-defined strategic need. Developed by Government Aircraft Factories (GAF), the design addressed the need for a robust and versatile aircraft, capable of operating in hostile environments and semi-prepared runways, crucial characteristics for the vast and diverse regions of Australia and South East Asia.

Outside Australia, the Nomad was widely adopted by civilian and military operators in regions such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea and the United States.
